  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from R. Bloom -- A great memoir of finding your true identity : Few of us have ever endured what Jenna Shotmeyer has, but all of us have asked many of the same questions she wrestled with in her book "Are You Drowning". What do you do, when your present reality doesn't match up with your long hoped for dreams and expectations? I was inspired, brought to tears, and challenged as I read, even more, "heard" Jenna's heart, through the telling of this incredible memoir. Jenna learned firsthand that the best lemonade is made from sour lemons, and that's not some craft store cliché, but was a hard fought (and won) battle, that will influence everyone who reads her story! I highly recommend it!! ( Reviewed in the United States on October 22, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from James -- Inspiring and Hopeful : I recommend this book to anyone facing struggle and uncertainty in their life. The book wonderfully details the author's emotional and spiritual journey following a traumatic brain injury. While her story is unique, her emotions – confusion, sadness, anger and hopelessness – are something we all experience from time to time. In her darkest moments, she makes a crucial decision – a decision to shed her pre-injury identity and surrender to God’s will. Her deep faith and spiritual healing serve as a reminder to us all that our ultimate purpose lies not in our talents or abilities, but in our faithfulness and service to God. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Carl Benson -- Everyone should read this : Through anecdotes, metaphors, and poems, Jenna recalls the trials of suffering from a TBI in an incredibly raw yet relatable way. She walks through the phases of a terrible season and how she coped - by hope and faith in Jesus Christ. Tides rise and fall, and it is all too easy to build our houses and identities on fleeting things. Read this book and you will be challenged and encouraged to build your house on a firm foundation. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Donna James -- Powerful, raw and faith inspiring : A young college student whose life changes in a moment. With courage, tears, and vulnerability she tells of her faith in God. But she also shares the place of desperation in which she wonders how her life will ever be of value. Hope against all odds God takes her on a powerful trust journey with Him. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 19, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Casey I -- Pain and healing : The physical, mental and spiritual pain Jenna details in the book is heartbreaking but it is accompanied with incredible hope. Anyone who has struggled with where they fit in their life or struggled to understand where they fit in Gods plan for them will get something out of this book. Highly recommend. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from MVK -- Quick, encouraging read : This book is for the people who have walked through something difficult, which, if we’re being honest, is all of us. A quick, story-driven read that will leave you encouraged and strengthen your hope for tomorrow. Also, peep the book signing with the author in the pic! • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Kaitlyn Noelle -- Beautifully & Authentically Written- a heartfelt testimony that will inspire everyone you know. <3 : Are You Drowning? is beautifully written, and offers a personal view into the author's experience of trauma and healing. Equal parts heart-warming and heart-wrenching, readers are taken on a journey where Jenna’s every high and low are deeply felt through the words written across these pages. Jenna invites you along to draw from her refreshed perspective and the numerous lessons God revealed to her as she lived though fear, pain, and the unknown into a place of healing. This is the testimony that one will never grow tired of hearing again and again, but instead will be continuously inspired by. One of the most striking quotes for me to read was, “you don’t need what you don’t have in order to fulfill God’s plan for your life.” Everyone (yes, I mean everyone!) you know would be inspired by reading Are You Drowning. I know that this is the kind of rare and beautiful story that will offer something new to be learned every time you will re-read it, as I know I definitely will!
